25,000 Bumblebees Killed in Oregon

25,000 bumblebees died yesterday in a Target parking lot in Oregon due to pesticide poisoning, the Daily Kos reports .

Failing to regulate multinational corporations that incur vasts profits while passing the environmental and economic externalitites to the public destroys businesses that provide real value to the economy.

Bees provide a crucial service for our food system and they do it free of charge. In Ontario alone, bees pollinate fruits and vegetables for a total worth of $2 Billion.

The extent to which unregulated corporations can destroy economic progress is scary. Last month Russia’s president urged President Obama to stop protecting the multinational corporation because the extinction of bees will cause food shortages so severe that it may lead to a new world war.

Pesticides marketed by Monsanto are banned in Europe.
