Apple Inc. Squeezes New Supplier

Apple continues to squeeze suppliers in China by switching its supply chain away from Foxconn. Petragon will produce Apple’s new low-cost iPhone after the supplier accepted thinner profits, the Wall Street Journal reports.

In a global market controlled by a few multinational corporations like Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung, suppliers are often pitted against each other resulting in lower wages and dangerous working conditions.

Foxconn was in the news last year after the company installed anti-suicide nets at its factory-living complex. Better working conditions, however, has not been the major deterrence for Apple’s decision. Foxconn churned out the iPhone 5 with major glitches last year, and Apple is looking to lower risks while paying less at the same time.
