Fracking Kirchner

With the discovery of 150 million barrels of non-conventional gas, the beginning of fracking activities in southern Argentina goes in tandem with Neoliberal trends that maximize profits regardless of their long term impact to the environment, the people, and the economy.

It doesn’t matter if companies are privately owned and publicly subsidized, or fully run by neo-socialist czars. At either extreme, the United States and Argentina are following the same myopic energy policies. Policies that enrich the few. Policies that waste public funds into nonrenewable and decaying industries rather than investing in technologies that lead the economy toward a greater potential.
