Grain Farmers Lobby Group Fights Ban on Neonicotinoids

Grain Farmers of Ontario is lobbying the provincial government to fight a potential ban on Neonicotinoids. The federal Pest Management Regulatory Agency determined last year that the insecticide used to treat corn, canola, and soy was primarily responsible for mass bee deaths.

The lobby group says that grain farmers could lose up to 20 bushels per acre with the ban on Neonicotinoid being promoted by the Ontario Beekeepers’ Association. On the other hand, bees provide an essential and non-renewable service to Ontario worth $2 billion for the free pollination of fruits and vegetables.

Science and economic justice should simply determine that the grain industry controlled by Monsanto, Bayern, and Cargill is simply not that valuable to the province of Ontario if it damages valuable resources that are crucial for the whole economy.
