The world has an environmental problem, a poverty problem, and an energy problem. New technological advancements are not enough, and far too expensive for more than 2.4 billion people living on less than $2 a day.

By upcycling plastic bottles into lamps, MyShelter Foundation is bringing light to more than 1 million homes in the Philippines. With only water and bleach, the bottle is placed on the roof of shanty homes to filter the light from the sun into the equivalent of a 60 watts bulb. Although this method is useless at night, it makes life more comfortable during the day at no cost to the people and the environment.
