Media and industry have always been in bed to promote a pathological consumerist spciety. Since the early days, advertisers have pulled their campaigns if a media outlet published compromising material.

Then in the early 90′s media and industry merged thanks to a Neoliberal deregulatory campaign that monopolized the global media industry and allowed multinational corporations like General Electric to own the channels of information.

Now the line is getting thinner. With the advent of online journalism and social media, thousands of people are sharing news paid and sometimes written by multinational corporations like Jhonson & Jhonson.

The New York Times reports that

The Huffington Post, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, BuzzFeed and Business Insider all use some form of branded content
